Engineering Design and Contract Procurement

The scope of design involvement varies considerably from one appointment to another, and the Practice is able to tailor the service to suit the precise requirements of each Client. Our service may range from the production of a Performance Specification against which Contractors submit bids for the detail design and construction, to a comprehensive, co-ordinated design of all engineering services. Where required, the Practice is able to offer 'Watching Brief' services where we provide independent checks on the work of other designers or contractors during their design process. The service provided by the Practice may include any or all of the following elements, to suit the needs of the Client at the time.

Contract Control
During construction phases of projects, the Practice offers either full or partial services as required. This may be in the role of Contract Administrator or as one member of a team of professionals.
During this stage of a project services may include:

Quality Control and Witness Testing may also be undertaken at the works of manufacturers for major plant and equipment, prior to delivery to the construction site.

Reports and Feasibility Studies

Feasibility studies and technical appraisals may be undertaken in order to determine the viability of proposed projects and to establish the most suitable means of achieving the desired aims of the Client.

Condition surveys of existing engineering installations may be carried out and appraisals/reports prepared for a variety of uses; for example, to enable Clients to establish the viability of retaining or replacing plant and equipment, valuations where buildings or plant etc. are being bought, sold or leased etc., to provide Clients with guidance on the safety of equipment/ installations etc.

The discipline of a structured cost-benefit analysis may be applied to a range of options to generate a truly objective appraisal of the alternatives available.

Energy Studies/Management

The Practice offers energy consultancy services, such as investigations of existing or proposed buildings and plant in order to establish means of optimising the engineering services and minimising running costs.

Where energy ratings for buildings are required (e.g. in order to comply with the Energy Performance of Buildings & Directive), the practice offers to undertake the analysis and issue of certification, i.e: SAP & SBEM calculations to provide EPC certificates.

We can also offer sustainability calculations & statements for planning permission for new developments, in line with the governments low carbon toolkit.

Value Engineering

Multi-disciplinary Value Engineering work and studies covering all the professional disciplines may be undertaken for a wide variety of project types, ranging from Military Defence buildings to process buildings and office establishments. Maintenance of Installations

Most Clients recognise the importance of timely and effective engineering maintenance. The Practice attaches great importance to the production of comprehensive and clear record documentation at the time of Hand-over; such documents, when prepared by Contractors must meet the Practice’s stringent requirements, otherwise they may be prepared by ourselves as an additional service.
